American companies Lockheed Martin and Verizon have tested unmanned aerial vehicles with support for 5G networks and reconnaissance equipment. This is reported by Defense News.
The companies said that during the tests they analyzed the data received by the drone swarm in real time. Information was exchanged through private and public wireless networks of the fifth generation.
According to the vice president of the program 5G.MIL At Lockheed Martin Dan Rice, the results of the tests that were conducted in May and September can be applied on the battlefield.
"We have demonstrated that 5G technology can help the Ministry of Defense better detect and target enemy targets in a military environment," Rice said, adding that drones with 5G networks can be used "in almost any battle."
Earlier in September, a TASS source reported that the Russian Sirius heavy drone would receive its own satellite communications module.
In the same month, the publication Military Watch suggested that the Chinese drone Qimingxing-50, which is capable of flying in near space, can perform reconnaissance tasks.
