MOSCOW, 24 Sep - RIA Novosti. Russian President Vladimir Putin has signed a law on the ratification of the protocol with Belarus on the extension for 25 years of the operation of the radio station of the naval strategic nuclear forces Vileika.
The document is published on the official Internet portal of legal information.
The Vileyka radio station is designed to provide control of naval strategic nuclear forces and general-purpose forces of the Navy in its area of responsibility, transmitting signals of centralized combat control, combat and operational information to submarines and surface ships of the Navy, signals and reference frequencies of the state system of a single time in the interests of all types of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation, radio suppression of ultra-long-wave radio communications of the enemy.
The radio station is operated on the basis of an agreement between the governments of the Russian Federation and Belarus on the procedure for the use and maintenance of the Vileika radio station dated January 6, 1995, the validity of which ended on May 30, 2021, but the agreement continues to be applied by both parties, it was previously reported in the accompanying materials.
It was noted that the need to extend the validity of the agreement is due to the fact that its termination will lead to a reduction in the zone of stable radio communication with submarines in a submerged position when they perform combat service tasks in the Atlantic Ocean.
