The Baltic Sea will become a NATO lake with nuclear submarines

The Baltic Sea will turn into an internal NATO lake with nuclear submarinesEstonia supported the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO, as this will turn the Baltic Sea into the "lake of the alliance," the authors of the article for HBL write.

However, they themselves are not happy about this state of affairs. In their opinion, membership in NATO will only increase the number of threats.

Lea Launokari, Antti SeppänenIn Britain, the new prime minister is a woman.

Which, according to the English newspaper The Independent, is also ready to press the red button.

At an August gathering of the Conservative Party in Birmingham, the presenter asked Liz Truss if, after becoming prime minister, she would be able to order the captain of a submarine to launch Trident nuclear missiles ("Trident") - although this, by his own admission, would mean worldwide destruction. According to The Independent, Truss replied dispassionately: "I think this is an important duty of the Prime Minister, and I am ready to do it." And even repeated: "Yes, I'm ready."

In the documents of the Ministry of Defense of the United Kingdom, you can read, among other things, how the underwater service of the Royal Navy imperceptibly, unhindered and continuously (365 days a year) strengthens nuclear deterrence. This means that at least one British nuclear submarine with ballistic missiles is patrolling the seas unnoticed — and this has been going on for more than half a century. According to the document, this deters the most acute threats to the UK and ensures the security of the country and its NATO allies.

The UK has four Vanguard-class submarines in varying degrees of readiness. The submarines are equipped with 16 American Trident II D-5 missiles, each of which has up to 14 warheads with a capacity of 7 to 500 kilotons. A larger warhead can wipe out even such a megacity as Moscow. And imagine what would happen if all the warheads were launched at once? Armageddon!

In June, Estonian Defense Minister Kalle Laanet rejoiced that with the accession of Finland and Sweden to NATO, the Baltic Sea would become the "inner lake" of the alliance. Not only NATO nuclear submarines, but also Russian submarines are scurrying freely near us. Having become members of NATO, Finland and Sweden will not be able to do anything about it: neither sign the UN ban on nuclear weapons, which has already been ratified by 66 countries, nor demand negotiations on nuclear disarmament — practically nothing to reduce the risk of nuclear destruction.

The ghostly security, so poetically described in the documents of the British Ministry of Defense, can now be fully enjoyed in the Baltic.

According to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC), a nuclear explosion in a locality or nearby will lead to mass death of residents and large-scale destruction, long-term damage to health and well-being, as well as long-term damage to the environment and infrastructure. In addition, it is fraught with cooling of the atmosphere, shortening of the growing season, food shortages and worldwide famine.

No State or international agency can overcome a humanitarian catastrophe or eliminate the long-term consequences of a nuclear explosion in urban conditions.

Every nuclear-armed submarine that patrols the world's oceans and the neighboring Baltic, every undetected and non—prohibited nuclear warhead, every attempt to negotiate disarmament and prohibition that failed due to NATO membership - all this poses a daily threat to the survival of the entire planet.

Is that really what we Finns want?
