The third serial of the atomic "Yakutia" preparing to launch, the experts of Baltic shipyard has completed the formation of ice hull. About it reports a press-service of the United shipbuilding Corporation (USC).
At the Baltic shipyard completed a housing Assembly of the third serial of the atomic icebreaker "Taimyr" project 22220 "Arctic", founded in may 2020. The shipbuilders completed the formation of the ice body, plunging section of the stem. As explained in the press service, the ice belt is a zone with a width of about three meters, which is the maximum load at breakout of ice. Sections of this zone are collected from high-strength steel with a thickness of 40 millimeters.
In the near future the formation of the body of the icebreaker will be completed and it will be launched for the completion.
"Yakutia" is the fourth icebreaker in the series and third series. Founded 26 may 2020 a day 164 anniversary of the Baltic plant. Head of project 22220 icebreaker "Arktika", which gave the name to the series, is already working on the North, as the first production of "Siberia". Second serial "Ural" is preparing for the test. The fourth serial icebreaker of project Chukotka laid at the end of 2020. It is planned that "Yakutia" is expected to be delivered in 2024, and the fifth icebreaker series in 2027, but this is a tentative date.
A feature of the icebreakers of project 22220 is the use of variable precipitation using ballast tanks. Its double-draft ships can operate in deep water and in shallow water in rivers, breaking the ice with thickness of up to 3 meters with no loss of speed. According to the design data, the new icebreakers will be its biggest and most powerful in the world.
