The British government has approved the initiative of Altitude Angel to create an air corridor "Skyway" for testing UAVs of any type. It will be the longest highway of its kind in the world with a length of 265 km, which will connect the cities of Reading, Oxford, Cambridge and Milton Keynes. Access to conventional aircraft will be closed here, but drone manufacturers will be able to use the Skyway without hindrance.
The Skyway project grew out of the Arrow Drone Zone project from the same Altitude Angel, which developed a navigation and air traffic control system for drones. The idea is to create a dedicated air corridor for any type of UAVs that can move along it as part of their tasks without colliding with each other or with other objects in the air. The tests of the system were successful, and now the British authorities have approved the creation of a full-fledged air corridor for the implementation of the concept in practice. The cost of the project is $14 million, among the main investors are the Royal Postal Service and the National Health Service of Great Britain. Both structures plan to use drones for fast and efficient delivery of small loads. It is planned that the implementation of the project will take no more than two years. All manufacturers of commercial UAVs are invited to participate in it.
