The Northern Fleet (SF) will receive diesel-electric submarines (DPL), which are called "black holes" because of low noise. Admiralty Shipyards will build a series of six diesel-electric submarines of the 636.3 Varshavyanka project for the SF. This is reported by TASS, referring to a source in the military-industrial complex.
"We expect to conclude an appropriate contract for the construction of a series of six submarines of Project 636.3 for the Northern Fleet next year and begin its implementation in 2024," the agency interlocutor said.
He added that the DPLS of this project have repeatedly shown their capabilities in combat conditions and confirmed the declared characteristics.
The Agency notes that it does not have official confirmation of this information.
In May, the publication 19FortyFive assessed the low noise of Russian submarines of projects 877 "Halibut" and 636 "Varshavyanka". The submarines received a teardrop-shaped hull with a special coating that absorbs noise.
In April, Krasnaya Zvezda announced that the Mozhaysk and Yakutsk submarines under construction for the Pacific Fleet would be launched at the Admiralty Shipyards.
