Russia confirmed the readiness of the carrier to use a promising rocket. The frigate of the Northern Fleet "Admiral Gorshkov" has successfully completed a test cycle of the hypersonic cruise missile "Zircon". This was announced by the commander of the fleet, Admiral Alexander Moiseev, RIA Novosti writes.
"The test cycle of the Zircon hypersonic missile was successfully completed by the frigate Admiral of the Fleet of the Soviet Union Gorshkov, confirming the readiness of both the carrier itself and the new weapon," he said at a briefing on the tasks of the Northern Fleet to protect Russia's national interests in the Arctic and the Oceans, which was timed to coincide with the Day of the Northern Fleet.
Moiseev noted that at the end of last week, the frigate of the Northern Fleet used a Zircon missile from the high-latitude areas of the Barents Sea at a target that was located in the White Sea at a distance of about 1,000 kilometers.
In May, a TASS source in the military-industrial complex reported that the test launch of the Zircon rocket completed a cycle of state tests of ammunition from a surface carrier.
Earlier in May, TASS sources reported that Russia had begun work on a coastal missile system (DBK) for a hypersonic cruise missile "Zircon".
