The Russian Ambassador to the United States noted that Washington "really does not like" the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle and the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile
MOSCOW, May 14. /tass/. The United States does not like such strategic weapons of Russia as the Poseidon unmanned underwater vehicle and the Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile, Washington wants to limit or prohibit their use as part of future arms control agreements. This was stated on Saturday by the Russian Ambassador to the United States Anatoly Antonov on the TV channel " Solovyov Live ".
They don't like Poseidon very much, they don't like Sarmat very much, and at all the meetings that we have with representatives of academic circles, they keep telling us that in the future arms control agreement these Poseidons should be banned, of course, the use of Sarmats should be restricted, and so on next," he said.
For the first time, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced the creation of an underwater vehicle, later named Poseidon, in a message to the Federal Assembly in March 2018. According to the president, such drones can be equipped with both conventional and nuclear charges, which will allow them to hit a wide range of targets. The drone should have an unlimited range and a working depth of more than 1 km.
The Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile was developed at the V. P. Makeev State Rocket Center (part of Roscosmos), the manufacturer is the Krasmash plant (part of Roscosmos). According to experts, the RS-28 Sarmat ICBM is capable of delivering a separable warhead weighing up to 10 tons to anywhere in the world through both the North and South Poles.
