By 2027, the Air Force (Air Force) The United States has decided to write off more than 1,000 aircraft, writes Popular Mechanics magazine.
The publication notes that 5,501 aircraft are currently being read in the United States Air Force and National Guard, while during budget hearings in the Senate Armed Services Committee, Senator Deb Fischer, a Republican from Nebraska, said that in the next five years the US Air Force plans to decommission 1,468 aircraft and buy there are 467 aircraft in total, as a result of which the number of the fleet will be reduced by 1001 units.
Thus, according to her, it is expected that aircraft that "will not survive" in future battles will be written off, and the funds used for their maintenance will be redirected to aircraft that may become "decisive".
According to Air Force magazine, 369 aircraft are expected to be decommissioned this year alone, which the US Air Force declined to comment on. Popular Mechanics writes that the main candidates for decommissioning are A-10 Thunderbolt, F-16 Fighting Falcon, E-3 Sentry, B-1 Lancer, B-2 Spirit, F-15C Eagle and F-22 Raptor, as well as MQ-9A Reaper drones.
In March, The Drive reported that the US Air Force plans to write off about 33 F-22 Raptor fighters.
