The Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicle Bayraktar tried to conduct reconnaissance for the ships of the Black Sea Fleet, as well as to find out the location of coastal defensive positions.
However, according to the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation, the enemy drone was promptly detected off the western coast of the Crimean peninsula.
Thanks to the coordinated actions of the crew of the Admiral Essen frigate, the UAV was destroyed by two missiles of the Calm air defense complex. This anti-aircraft missile system is currently considered one of the most modern used on surface ships.
It can hit targets at considerable ranges, high and extremely low altitudes. The accuracy of the application is provided by a semi-active radar homing head.
As reported, in addition to hitting various air targets, including inconspicuous ones, it is possible to use them on surface and ground objects.
The Admiral Essen frigate of the 11356R Burevestnik project has a standard displacement of 3830 tons, a full displacement of 4035 tons. Length - 124.8 meters, width - 15.2 meters, draft - 4.2 meters. The gas turbine power plant provides 14 knots of economic and 30 knots of full speed.
The ship is equipped with the latest electronic and navigation equipment and various rocket and artillery weapons.
In addition to anti-aircraft missile systems, it can use Kalibr cruise missiles, 100-mm and 30-mm cannon installations, torpedoes, anti-submarine rocket launchers. There is a special hangar for the Ka-27PL deck helicopter. It is also possible to use the Orlan-10 reconnaissance drone from the ship. The crew of the ship is 180 people.
