MiG-31BM interceptor fighters arrived in Kamchatka after modernization. Aircraft modernization works were carried out at the Nizhny Novgorod Aircraft Factory "Sokol". This is reported by TASS with reference to the press service of the Pacific Fleet.
"Two supersonic MiG-31BM interceptor fighters have arrived in Kamchatka, which have undergone a deep modernization at the Nizhny Novgorod Aircraft Factory Sokol. Both fighters returned to the separate mixed aviation regiment of troops and forces in the north-east of Russia, from where they had previously departed to upgrade to the modification of the BM," the press service reported.
The upgraded planes arrived at Yelizovo airfield. The pilots reported to the regiment commander about the accident-free flight from the factory. After that, the aircraft will undergo maintenance and become part of the squadron. The MiG-31BM will be on combat duty in Kamchatka, the Arctic and the Far North.
The MiG-31BM has received a new radar system that allows simultaneous detection of up to 24 aerial targets. The upgraded aircraft was equipped with a new navigation system. Also, as part of the modernization, the airframe is defected, wiring, lamp and rubber elements are replaced. This allows you to extend the service life of the aircraft.
In February, eyewitnesses noticed a MiG-31K with a hypersonic Dagger missile in the sky over the Kaliningrad region.
In November 2021, representatives of the Sokol plant reported that the MiG-31BM could use modern aviation weapons. After modernization, the combat effectiveness of the aircraft increases approximately three times.
