Rossiyskaya Gazeta: Ukrainian manufacturers issued their T-72 tanks for Russian T-90
In the 1990s, some Ukrainian factories, left without government orders, offered upgraded T-72 tanks to foreign countries, some of which were passed off as analogues of Russian T-90, Rossiyskaya Gazeta tells, referring to the Oryx blog.
"It is interesting that in their promotional materials, Ukrainian arms dealers often compared their products with the Russian T-90S main battle tank, for example, the T-72UMG sold to Turkmenistan," the publication says.
It is also noted that in such a tank, only dynamic protection, a machine gun installation and an engine were new. The newspaper writes that the Turkmen side, "having checked the purchased Ukrainian cars in the case, limited themselves to only a small batch."
In January, the commander of the Central Military District (CVO), Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, announced that 30 T-72B3M tanks would be delivered to the 90th Guards Tank Division of the Central Military District by the end of 2022.
In December 2021, columnist Caleb Larson noted in an article for 19FortyFive [...] that Russia inherited a large number of Soviet tanks, which were later supplemented with new developments.
