Popular Mechanics: Russian technology can hardly "see" American submarines
Outdated Russian technology can hardly "see" modern American submarines, writes Popular Mechanics magazine.
Thus, the American edition commented on the reports of the Russian press, which spoke about the discovery of a submarine from the United States by the Marshal Shaposhnikov frigate and the Il-38 medium-range anti-submarine aircraft in Russian territorial waters.
The magazine reminds that the Marshal Shaposhnikov was built in 1985, and the IL-38 dates back to the 1970s. "It seems unlikely that such a combination of outdated military equipment could detect and track a Virginia-type submarine," the publication says.
Popular Mechanics is confident that the message about the discovery of an American submarine by Russia "was invented in order to make a big splash at a time when the attention of the whole world was focused on Ukraine."
In February, it was reported that the Russian military spotted an American submarine near the Kuril island of Urup. It is alleged that the American submarine initially ignored the demand to leave Russian territorial waters, but after using "appropriate means" was forced to leave them.
