The National Interest: F-35 fighters can make Russia "think twice"
Transfer of fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighters to the Air Force Base (Air Force) The US Spangdahl in Germany will not only strengthen the potential of NATO's collective defense, but also, if necessary, will allow these aircraft to be sent against the Russian army, says the American magazine The National Interest.
The publication writes that "the presence of the F-35 at a distance of impact may significantly change the dynamics of force and strategic calculation," in particular, "may make Russia think twice about any invasion of Ukraine for a number of key reasons."
"The deployment of the F-35 would be a significant advantage for NATO countries against the advancing Russian ground forces. It is unlikely that the Russian Su-57 stealth fighters will be able to compare with the F-35, which are operated by the Air Forces of NATO countries. Russia operates only a few Su-57s," the publication says.
In February, Defense News wrote that in a potential military conflict with Russia in Eastern Europe, in particular, in Ukraine, NATO should abandon the use of American fifth-generation F-35 Lightning II fighters due to the high risk of losing these small and expensive aircraft.
