The self-propelled anti-tank gun "Octopus-SDM1", which is considered a light tank, received a unique fire control system. The commander of the floating machine will be able to remotely aim the gun at the target. Sergey Kotelevsky, the head of the Kurganmashzavod R&D department, told about this on the air of the Military Acceptance program on the Zvezda TV channel.
"If the senior chief has found a target, and the car does not see it, he can give instructions here from another car, and it automatically points the barrel at this target," Kotelevsky said.
The commander of the upgraded vehicle received his own sight, which allows you to influence the choice of the target, as well as to direct the gun. Also, the commander has the ability to remotely control the machine gun installation. This serves to defeat air targets and lightly armored vehicles.
The head of the R&D department noted that the capabilities of the machine were confirmed at state tests. According to Kotelevsky, similar fire control system capabilities have not yet been implemented in other vehicles.
In January, Bekhan Ozdoev, Industrial director of the arms cluster of Rostec State Corporation, noted that state tests of the Octopus-SMD1 self-propelled gun will be completed in the first quarter of 2022.
In September, the car was dropped from the tower as part of a strength test. During the verification of the capabilities of the machine during the landing of the tank system were not affected.
