For the first time, the Ukrainian military used upgraded T-64BM2 tanks in exercises
The Armed Forces of Ukraine conducted exercises at a training ground in the Kharkiv region. During the maneuvers, the military used for the first time an upgraded version of the Soviet T-64 tank. This is reported by Defense Express.
The publication notes that during the exercises, the Ukrainian military reflected the offensive of a conditional enemy. During the training, the tankers used the upgraded T-64BM2 for the first time.
Also used in the exercises were armored personnel carriers BTR-4E, Soviet self-propelled howitzers 2S1 "Carnation" and anti-aircraft missile systems "Strela-10".
The improved machine is based on the T-64BM. The main difference of the new modification was the 1000 horsepower engine. The power unit took the place of the 5TDFM engine, which limited the mobility of the tank.
The main T-64B tank was developed in 1976. The car was the result of the modernization of the T-64A. The tank received additional protection and a new fire control system. In 2004, the Ukrainian military adopted the improved T-64BM "Bulat", which became the development of the T-64B. Later, the Bulat was put into reserve due to excess weight and a weak engine.
Earlier, the Defense Express edition announced the start of testing of the T-64BV sample of 2022. The Soviet car was equipped with new surveillance devices and sighting devices.
