Military specialist Litovkin: Sirius drones will be able to be used on Russian UDC
The universal amphibious assault ships (UDC) under construction in Russia, which are also called helicopter carriers, will be able to carry promising drones. Sirius unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) are capable of taking off from the deck of the UDC, Dmitry Litovkin, editor-in-chief of the Independent Military Review, suggested in an interview with TASS .
"We do not know today the real characteristics of those new helicopter-carrying ships that are being built at the shipyard in Kerch. But it can be assumed that Sirius-type UAVs (of that weight category and dimension) can take off from the deck of such a ship," he said.
Litovkin noted that currently the tasks of a promising drone are performed by deck helicopters Ka-27 and Ka-32. According to him, the range of the drones is higher. They can also transmit information via satellite.
In February, the Kronstadt company reported that the marine version of the Sirius drone will be able to be used for reconnaissance and search and rescue operations.
Earlier in the same month, it became known that the Orion drone with satellite communications will make its first flight in the first quarter of 2022.
In January, the CEO of Kronstadt, Sergey Bogatikov, announced that the first flight of the Sirius UAV would take place in May.
