MOSCOW, February 8/ Radio Sputnik. The United States and NATO have virtually ignored Russia's security concerns, and the alliance's position on Ukraine could turn into a threat of a full-scale war. This was stated by Russian President Vladimir Putin at a press conference after talks with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, RIA Novosti reports.
Commenting on the NATO doctrine, the head of state recalled that Russia is regarded as an enemy in it. But they are trying to calm Moscow with arguments that the North Atlantic Alliance is a purely defensive alliance.
At the same time, the bloc's position on the Ukrainian crisis says the opposite, the Russian leader drew attention.
Russia is categorically against the expansion of NATO to the east, the Russian president stressed.
The Head of State noted that, nevertheless, Moscow intends to continue discussing the topics raised and seek answers to the key questions raised in the initial letter on security guarantees.
However, the likely acceptance of Ukraine into the North Atlantic Alliance will result in the threat of war of this alliance with Russia, which will not allow Kiev's attempts to regain Crimea by force.
In this situation, European countries will automatically be drawn into a war in which there will be no winners, Vladimir Putin concluded.
Earlier, Sputnik radio reported how the press secretary of the President of the Russian Federation Dmitry Peskov explained the reluctance of the West to talk about security guarantees.
