Crews of Ka-27PS deck helicopters of the Pacific Fleet Naval Aviation conducted ice reconnaissance in the area of the La Perouse Strait connecting the Sea of Japan and the Sea of Okhotsk as part of the exercise. This was reported on February 4 in the press service of the Eastern Military District.
As specified in the military formation, the helicopter crews assessed the state of the ice in the areas of the planned passage through the strait zone. Helicopter pilots also identified safe routes and identified directions for overcoming ice fields.
In addition, the press service of the Eastern Military District reported that a safe parking of ships and vessels of the Pacific Fleet on an unprotected raid was organized in the waiting area.
"The military personnel of the anti-submarine and sabotage defense unit have strengthened control over the water surface, preventive grenade throwing is being carried out," the report says.
During the parking period, the ships of the detachment also conducted training on the organization of air defense and countering the sabotage activities of a conditional enemy.
On the eve of February 3, it became known that the crews of a detachment of warships of the Northern Fleet conducted an air defense exercise in the Atlantic. The crews of the cruiser Marshal Ustinov and the frigate Admiral Kasatonov took part in the exercise.
A day earlier it was reported that two Tu-95 strategic missile carriers of long-range aviation flew over the neutral waters of the Barents and Norwegian Seas, as well as the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean. According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, the missile carriers were accompanied by MiG-31 fighters of the Air Force and Air Defense association of the Northern Fleet.
