Crews of a detachment of warships of the Northern Fleet conducted an air defense exercise in the Atlantic. This was announced on Thursday, February 3, by the Ministry of Defense of the Russian Federation.

"A detachment of warships of the Northern Fleet conducted an exercise to repel attacks by means of an air attack of a conditional enemy in the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean," the military department said in a statement.

The crews of the cruiser Marshal Ustinov and the frigate Admiral Kasatonov took part in the exercise, the press service of the Ministry of Defense noted.

According to the ministry, the exercise was conducted using computer simulation of the tactical situation. The ships of the fleet hit the imaginary enemy in the air with anti-aircraft fire means.

The personnel of the combat posts of detection, radio-electronic and anti-aircraft fire destruction worked out the issuance and reception of target designation, as well as the conditional use of ships' weapons, the Ministry of Defense reported.

It is noted that the exercise took place in difficult hydrometeorological conditions, as there was gusty wind and sea waves up to 6 points in the tactical zone.

A day earlier it was reported that two Tu-95 strategic missile carriers of long-range aviation flew over the neutral waters of the Barents and Norwegian Seas, as well as the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean. According to the press service of the Ministry of Defense, the missile carriers were accompanied by MiG-31 fighters of the Air Force and Air Defense association of the Northern Fleet.

On February 2, it was reported that Russian military aircraft flew over the Atlantic as part of a submarine search and detection exercise.

In January-February of this year, a series of naval exercises is being held in all areas of responsibility of the fleets under the general leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov.

The main focus of the exercises is to work out the actions of the Navy and Aerospace Forces to protect Russian national interests in the world Ocean, as well as to counter military threats to the Russian Federation from sea and ocean directions.

In total, it is planned to attract more than 140 warships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, 1 thousand units of military equipment, about 10 thousand military personnel to participate in the events.
