On Sunday, January 30, the press service of the Western Military District reported that four upgraded super-maneuverable multifunctional two-seat Su-30SM2 fighters arrived at the airfield in the city of Chernyakhovsk, Kaliningrad region. They became part of the mixed naval aviation regiment of the Baltic Fleet. The crews took the planes at the manufacturing plant in Irkutsk and made a multi-kilometer flight to the place of permanent deployment.
The press service of the ZVO said that the pilots of the regiment underwent a refresher course on the Su-30SM2. The pilots studied the tactical and technical characteristics of the fighter, its technological base and piloting features, worked out the control of this aircraft on ground simulators and performed practical flights.
It is known that the Su-30SM2 differs from the predecessor of the Su-30SM, which is also in service with the naval aviation of the Baltic Fleet, in that imported equipment was replaced with domestic analogues on this machine. The fighter received improved tactical and technical characteristics of an optoelectronic sighting and navigation system, a complex of electronic countermeasures, a radar control system - it provides an increased range of detection of air targets.
In addition, the Su-30SM2 expanded the nomenclature and increased the range of use of controlled air-to-air and air-to-surface aircraft weapons. We are talking about the use of new means of destroying air, ground, including radar, and naval targets.
"It is expected that the rearmament of the mixed aviation regiment of the Baltic Fleet naval aviation from Su-24M aircraft to Su-30SM2 aircraft will increase its combat potential by one and a half times. Earlier in 2016-2018, eight Su-30SM aircraft were delivered to the regiment," the press service of the ZVO reported.
I must say that this machine is also considered a modern and quite powerful shock tool. The letters "C" and "M" in its name mean that the aircraft is mass-produced and in an upgraded version. It is designed to gain air supremacy, block enemy airfields, destroy its air, land and sea targets. Two forced turbojet engines with a controlled thrust vector and a front horizontal tail provide the Su-30SM with high maneuverability. A modern radar with a phased array antenna provides the fighter with reliable navigation, communication and unique target recognition capabilities.
The combat radius of its action of the Su-30SM is 1500 km, the duration of the flight without refueling is 3.5 hours. The fighter is capable of using modern and promising high-precision weapons of the air-to-air and air-to-surface classes.
