The German Navy received the final frigate of the F 125 project. Today, January 30, the portal edrmagazine.eu He reported that Thyssenkrupp Marine Systems has delivered the Rheinland-Pfalz project F 125 to the German Navy.
"We delivered all the ships of the F 125 project. The remaining three frigates are already on combat duty and have proven their technical capabilities and reliability. We are convinced that the fourth Rheinland-Pfalz ship will also be successful," said Rolf Wirtz, executive director of the F 125 project.

The German Defense Ministry plans to replace with four frigates of the F 125 project eight ships of the F 122 project, which are now in service with the German Navy. Each of the new ships will be equipped with two crews (120 people each), who will take turns on combat duty – this will allow for more efficient use of frigates and reduce their downtime.
The size of the F 125 type ships is comparable to destroyers, but in Germany they are classified as frigates, which makes these ships the largest in their class. The Rheinland-Pfalz is almost 150 m long, 19 m wide, 5 m draught, and the total displacement reaches 7,200 tons. Frigates of the F 125 type are equipped with a CODLAG type combined power plant combining diesel generators and electric motors. One of the key features of the new frigates is a long maintenance cycle. The frigate must do without maintenance at the base for two years, while performing medium-intensity operations (5,000 hours per year). Rheinland-Pfalz is armed with a 127 mm Otobreda artillery piece and two 27 mm MLG 27 anti-aircraft guns. In addition, the ship has launch shafts for various types of combat missiles and anti-submarine torpedoes.
