19FortyFive: the Russian Su-57 can be called a fifth-generation fighter with a stretch
The Russian Su-57 can be called a fifth-generation fighter with a stretch, since it lags behind the F-22 Raptor, F-35 Lightning II and J-20 combat stealth aircraft, 19FortyFive believes .
"As all three countries of the world try to monopolize the export market, the F-35 and J-20 leave the Su-57 far behind in terms of what consumers are looking for as the next great fighter. In fact, it may be the most noticeable fighter of all [for radars]," the American publication claims.
The publication says that the Su-57 has not yet received hypersonic missiles, but is only being tested with their "functional full-size models." Another problem of the Russian fighter is the lack of a second-stage engine ("product 30"), which "not only limits the flight performance of the Su-57, but also negatively affects the low visibility," as well as the fact that the Su-57 is inferior to the F-35 Lightning II in avionics.
"Although the F-22 and F-35 are still ahead of the Su-57 in stealth and avionics, it is still a formidable aircraft, which can be called a fifth-generation fighter with a stretch," concludes 19FortyFive.
In December 2021, the commander of the troops of the Eastern Military District (VVO), Colonel-General Alexander Chaiko, during the final board of the Russian Ministry of Defense, said that the VVO troops would receive the first fifth-generation Su-57 fighters in 2022.
