Moscow. January 29. INTERFAX - The MiG-31 interceptor fighter rolled out of the runway in the Novgorod region, no one was injured, the Russian Defense Ministry reported.
"On January 29, in the Novgorod region, during takeoff for a scheduled flight, as a result of a technical malfunction, the MiG-31 aircraft rolled out of the runway. The crew was not injured. There are no casualties and destruction on the ground," the Defense Ministry said.
According to the agency, the Commission of the Aerospace Forces (VKS) of Russia is working at the scene.
"After the technical inspection and maintenance of the aircraft, the machine will be returned to service as soon as possible," the ministry said.
The MiG-31 (NATO codification: Foxhound - "Foxhound") is a two-seat supersonic long-range interceptor fighter designed for long-term patrolling and combating high-altitude reconnaissance aircraft, strategic bombers and low-flying targets. The aircraft is capable of simultaneously hitting 6 and escorting up to 10 aerial targets.
Developed in the 1970s, the MiG-31 became the first Soviet fourth-generation combat aircraft designed for use in the country's air defense system.
