MOSCOW, January 28. /tass/. Crews of ships of the Black Sea Fleet performed artillery firing on air and sea targets during planned exercises in the Black Sea. This was reported to journalists in the information support department of the Black Sea Fleet of the press service of the Southern Military District.
"The combat crews of the naval strike group of the fleet consisting of the frigate Admiral Essen, the patrol ship Ladny, the missile boats Naberezhnye Chelny and R-60 have worked out actions for conducting naval combat, performing live firing at targets simulating ships and means of air attack of a conditional enemy," the fleet said.
Also, artillery firing was carried out on floating mines and aerial targets, which were simulated by dropping luminous SUB-250 bombs from naval aviation and air defense aircraft of the Black Sea Fleet.
The exercises take place in January and February in all areas of responsibility of the fleets under the overall leadership of the Commander-in-Chief of the Navy, Admiral Nikolai Evmenov. The main focus of the exercises is to work out the actions of the Navy and Aerospace Forces to protect Russian national interests in the world Ocean, as well as to counter military threats to the Russian Federation from sea and ocean directions.
The exercises will cover the waters of the seas adjacent to the Russian territory, as well as operationally important areas of the World Ocean. Separate exercises will be held in the waters of the Mediterranean, Northern, Okhotsk Seas, in the northeastern part of the Atlantic Ocean and in the Pacific Ocean. In total, it is planned to involve more than 140 warships and support vessels, more than 60 aircraft, 1,000 units of military equipment, and about 10 thousand military personnel to participate in the events.
