An F-35 fighter jet crashed into the South China Sea while attempting to land on a US Navy aircraft carrier
An American fifth-generation F-35 fighter jet crashed into the South China Sea while attempting to land on the US Navy's Carl Vinson aircraft carrier. This is reported by the press service of the American Pacific Fleet.
According to a military press release, the incident occurred during scheduled flights on January 24. The pilot was able to successfully eject and was later rescued by a military helicopter, now he is in stable condition. It is noted that as a result of the incident, seven sailors were injured, three of whom had to be taken to a hospital in the Philippines.
Earlier in November, the British F-35B Lightning II crashed during a scheduled flight to the Mediterranean. The cause of the accident was the fact that when the plane took off, a gust of wind tore off a plastic raincoat from one of the sailors on deck. The raincoat blocked the air intake of the aircraft. Because of this, the plane lost speed and fell overboard.
