Commander of the troops of the Central Military District Lapin: MLRS "Tornado-S" will enter the troops in 2022
Units of the Central Military District (CVO) will receive new multiple rocket launchers (MLRS) for the first time in 2022 "Tornado-S". The systems will be put into service by the brigade in the Kurgan region, in the Urals. This was announced by the commander of the Central Military District, Colonel-General Alexander Lapin, RIA Novosti reports.
"The jet brigade stationed in the Kurgan region will receive the first new Tornado-S multiple launch rocket systems in the district," Lapin said.
The Tornado-S MLRS is based on the Smerch system. The new installation received an on-board control and communication system, as well as an automated guidance and fire control system. Tornado-S can also work with satellites and receive target designation from a drone. The new system can hit targets with single missiles.
In March, sources in the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that in the Western Military District, the Smerch MLRS will be replaced with new Tornado-S systems.
In November, it became known that the unit of the Eastern Military District will receive the Tornado-S MLRS. The installations will be delivered to the 338th Guards Jet Brigade.
