The first samples of Su-30SM2 fighters were transferred to the Russian Navy. Yesterday, on January 20, the TASS news agency reported that, as part of a single day of military acceptance, Rostec State Corporation handed over samples of modernized aircraft to the armed forces.
"Rostec has started deliveries of upgraded Su-30SM2 fighters for naval aviation. The aircraft received increased combat capabilities and retained the main advantages of the Su-30SM: super maneuverability, long flight range, onboard radar with a phased array antenna, a crew of two people providing simultaneous air combat and the defeat of ground targets," the press service of the state corporation reported.

In addition, the Russian Helicopters holding, part of Rostec, has begun deliveries of Mi-28NM and Ka-52 attack helicopters. In total, within the framework of a single day of military acceptance, Rostec enterprises delivered eight types of weapons and military equipment to the Russian armed forces, including BMP-3 infantry fighting vehicles, upgraded T-72B3 tanks, as well as electronic jamming equipment.
The Su-30SM is a Russian two-seat multi-purpose fighter of the "4+" generation. The aircraft is capable of striking air, surface and ground targets day and night, as well as in difficult weather conditions. The Su-30SM is an upgraded version of the Su-30 fighter developed in the 80s on the basis of the Su-27UB. Initially, various modifications of the Su-30 were made for export, and in 2012 deliveries of the Su-30SM to the Russian army began.
Plans to modernize the fleet of Su-30SM fighters have been known for several years. Initially, it was a project of aircraft remotorization, later it expanded and was named Su-30SM1, but it did not go further than plans. Then it became known about the Su-30SM2 project, within the framework of which it is planned to modernize the entire fleet of Russian Su-30SM. It is known that as part of the modernization to the Su-30SM2 level, the aircraft receive the most modern Russian engine - AL-41F-1C (product 117C), which is now being installed on serial Su-35 aircraft, a more powerful Irbis radar, as well as an expanded arsenal of air-to-air and air-to-ground weapons, including hypersonic.
