The AC-130 direct support aircraft will receive a new 105 mm cannon
A group of American engineers has created a new cannon for a flying battery of direct support of the ground forces AC-130. Aircraft of the Air Force (Air Force) The United States will receive a new 105-millimeter howitzer, reports The Drive.
The publication notes that the AC-130W Stinger II and AC-130J Ghostrider aircraft use the M102 howitzer, which was adopted in 1964. In the ground forces, the gun was replaced with the M119 howitzer.
A group of engineers from the Naval Ground Warfare Center Dahlgren is working on creating a new howitzer for the aircraft. The promising gun will replace the M102 on AC-130W and AC-130J aircraft.
It is reported that two prototypes of a new howitzer have been created in the United States. Representatives of the Navy noted that the new gun will require less maintenance costs.
In November, the United States began testing a new gun for a promising helicopter. The General Dynamics XM915 gun is designed for a helicopter that is being developed as part of the Future Attack Reconnaissance Aircraft (FARA) project.
In October, the US Air Force received a prototype of the Airborne High Energy Laser (AHEL) laser system. The laser is designed for installation on AC-130J. The power of the installation will not exceed 60 kilowatts.
