The submarine "Volkhov" launched a Kalibr missile from an underwater position during exercises
The diesel-electric submarine B-603 "Volkhov" of the Russian Navy (Navy) launched a Kalibr cruise missile on Thursday. The shooting was carried out from an underwater position in the Sea of Japan. The missile hit a ground target. This is reported by RIA Novosti with reference to the Russian Defense Ministry.
"Today, in the waters of the Sea of Japan, the newest diesel-electric submarine Volkhov of the Pacific Fleet launched a Kalibr cruise missile at a ground target from an underwater position. Before performing the combat exercise, the submariners made a secret exit to the designated area," the message said.
The Defense Ministry noted that the missile hit a target on the tactical field of Surkum in the Khabarovsk Territory. The firing range exceeded 1000 kilometers. The firing was provided by aircraft and drones of the Pacific Fleet Naval Aviation (Pacific Fleet), as well as ships.
In November, Izvestia reported that the Pacific Fleet will receive six submarines of the 636.3 Varshavyanka project until 2024.
