TSAMTO, January 20. The construction of the Belgorod special-purpose submarine, the carrier of the Poseidon marine drones, is at the final stage. This, as RIA Novosti reports, was announced by Mikhail Budnichenko, General Director of JSC PO Sevmash.
"The construction of the Belgorod nuclear submarine is at the final stage. Intense work is going on in the workshops of the enterprise: there are two lines of ships of the Borey-A and Yasen-M projects on the stocks, as well as the Khabarovsk submarine," M.Budnichenko said in an interview with the Plant magazine (Sevmash).
As the agency reminds, the Belgorod multipurpose submarine, which is an experimental boat for Poseidon drones, was launched on the Sevmash in April 2019.
Initially, the Belgorod submarine belonged to the Antey project 949A (an analogue of Kursk), which was redesigned into the 09852 project specifically for the Poseidon system, and the Khabarovsk submarine is already a regular Poseidon carrier (all characteristics of this submarine are classified).
Russian President Vladimir Putin first announced the development of Poseidon in a message to the Federal Assembly in 2018. According to him, such drones can be equipped with both conventional and nuclear munitions, which will allow them to hit a wide range of targets, including aircraft carrier groups, coastal fortifications and infrastructure.
