MOSCOW, January 20 - RIA Novosti. The construction of a special-purpose nuclear submarine Belgorod is at the final stage, said the General director of the Sevmash plant (Severodvinsk) Mikhail Budnichenko.
Earlier, a source of RIA Novosti in the military-industrial complex reported that the tests of the Belgorod submarine, the carrier of the Poseidon sea drones, were to be completed at Sevmash last autumn.
The Belgorod multipurpose nuclear submarine is an experimental boat for Poseidon drones, launched in April 2019 at Sevmash.
The boat originally belonged to project 949A "Antey" (an analogue of "Kursk"), which was redesigned into project 09852 specifically for the Poseidon system.
The Khabarovsk submarine is a regular carrier of Poseidons. All the characteristics of this submarine are classified.
Russian President Vladimir Putin first announced the development of Poseidon in a message to the Federal Assembly in 2018. According to him, such drones can be equipped with both conventional and nuclear munitions, which will allow them to hit a wide range of targets, including aircraft carrier groups, coastal fortifications and infrastructure.
