The US Navy showed the concept of the next-generation DDG(X) ship
The US Navy has shown the concept of a destroyer with laser weapons and hypersonic missiles, which will be built in 2028. The appearance of the new ship was described in a report by the US Navy, USNI News reports.
The promising ship will receive a single power plant that will provide power to combat lasers with a capacity of up to 600 kilowatts. Energy weapons will allow you to hit cruise missiles.
Initially, DDG(X) will receive 32-cell Mk-41 launchers, which can be replaced with 12-cell launchers for advanced hypersonic missiles. The modular design will allow you to change the number of missiles. The ship is planned to be equipped with the Baseline 10 Aegis combat system and the SPY-6 radar.
The US Navy wants to get a ship with an extended cruising range, which will consume 25 percent less fuel than destroyers of the Arleigh Burke type. Also, the requirements for DDG(X) included improved seaworthiness and the ability to perform tasks in the Arctic.
Earlier, Breaking Defense reported on the preparation of the HELIOS combat laser for installation on the US Navy Preble-class destroyer Arleigh Burke. The ship with the new weapons will go to sea in 2022.
In December, the publication The Drive drew attention to the rusted destroyer Zumwalt. A ship with traces of rust and a discolored radio-absorbing coating was spotted in San Diego Bay.
