Russia plans to abandon the lease of 16 objects of Baikonur
Russia is going to refuse to lease 16 objects at the Baikonur cosmodrome by the end of 2022, RIA Novosti writes with reference to a source in the space industry.
According to him, Russia plans to terminate the lease of part of the cosmodrome: she has compiled a list of objects that she considers unpromising for further use. The list includes 16 objects that are currently leased by Moscow.
The document includes not only real estate, but part of the property has a residual value. Before transferring it to Kazakhstan, it will have to be removed from the register of Russian enterprises. The transfer of objects to the Kazakh side should take place before the end of 2022.
Earlier, Roscosmos CEO Dmitry Rogozin spoke about a sixfold reduction in the number of launch complexes at the Baikonur cosmodrome. 25 years ago there were 18 launch complexes, now there are three left.
According to him, two launch complexes are designed for launching heavy Proton-M missiles. One is for the launches of medium-sized Soyuz-2 carriers.
