The board received new electronics with greater performance and speed
MOSCOW, December 29. /tass/. The Vega Concern (part of the Rostec State Corporation's Roselectronics holding) and the Beriev TANTK (part of the Rostec United Aircraft Corporation) have handed over to the Aerospace Forces of the Russian Aerospace Forces an upgraded A-50U long-range radar surveillance and guidance system. This was reported to journalists on Wednesday in the press service of Rostec.
"The aircraft has been upgraded as part of the implementation of a large-scale program to upgrade the fleet of AWACS aircraft provided for by the state defense order. The board can detect fundamentally new types of aircraft, and is also capable of simultaneously escorting a larger number of targets and guided fighters than the previous modification," the press service noted.
Rostec reported that the aircraft is being equipped with new systems. "The upgraded A-50U received new electronics with higher performance and speed, which allowed to increase the capabilities of functional software. A new flight navigation system is also installed on the aircraft. Due to the use of modern equipment with less weight, the flight range and the time of performing combat missions at a given turn have increased," the press service informed.
The work on upgrading the A-50 aircraft to the A-50U level continues, said Vyacheslav Mikheev, CEO of Vega Concern. "We continue to work on the modernization of military A-50s to the A-50U level. This is the seventh such complex delivered to the troops. We plan to hand over the next board in 2023," the Rostec press service quoted him as saying.
The A-50U aircraft is designed to detect, track and determine the ownership of air, large land and sea targets, provide information about them to command posts, guide fighters to air targets and front-line aircraft to land and sea targets.
