TSAMTO, December 27. On December 24, the Baltic Plant (part of the USC) hosted the signing ceremony of the act of acceptance and transfer of the first serial universal nuclear icebreaker "Siberia" project 22220. The ceremony was held on board the newest vessel.
Alexey Kadilov, General Director of the Baltic Plant, and Mustafa Kashka, General Director of FSUE Atomflot, signed the acceptance and transfer act. According to tradition, the production director of the Baltic Plant presented the captain of the nuclear icebreaker with a bottle neck of champagne broken on the day of launching the ship, as well as a portrait of the godmother – Tatiana Golikova. After signing the act of acceptance and transfer, the Sibir nuclear-powered vessel became part of the Russian nuclear icebreaker fleet.
"I want to thank the Atomflot team who built and tested this icebreaker with us. The icebreaker will leave, but the Baltic Plant will remain on it: we will help you operate it, provide spare parts. I hope you will like the result of our joint work," said Alexey Kadilov, General Director of the Baltic Plant.
"The commissioning of the first serial universal nuclear icebreaker Siberia will strengthen Rosatomflot's position in the Arctic region. The nuclear-powered ships of the 22220 project embody the successful experience of shipbuilders and sailors. We are confident that the efficient operation of these vessels will become a determining factor in the sustainable development of navigation in the waters of the Northern Sea Route," said Mustafa Kashka, Director General of Atomflot.
"The installation for the construction of a nuclear icebreaker fleet is also an application for a high level of environmental friendliness of ships. Especially taking into account the November climate conference in Glasgow, where the world community came to an important decision that nuclear energy should also be at the heart of the low-carbon energy balance," commented Alexey Rakhmanov, CEO of the United Shipbuilding Corporation.
The universal nuclear icebreaker "Siberia" is the second vessel of the project 22220, built at the Baltic Plant. The ceremony of its laying took place on May 26, 2015. The launch took place on September 22, 2017. In addition to Siberia, the company is building three more nuclear-powered ships of the project - these are the icebreakers Ural, Yakutia and Chukotka.
The universal nuclear icebreakers of Project 22220 are the largest and most powerful icebreaking vessels in the world. Their main task is to ensure year-round navigation in the Arctic. The vessels of this project in the coming years should become the basis of the civil icebreaking fleet of Russia.
