MOSCOW, December 21. /tass/. In 2021, the Northern Fleet was preparing the Arctic group to ensure the security of maritime communications and areas of maritime economic activity of the Russian Federation, the commander of the SF Alexander Moiseev told reporters on Tuesday.
"The main efforts were focused on preparing the Arctic group to ensure the security of maritime communications and areas of maritime economic activity of the Russian Federation, both independently and in cooperation with border patrol ships, with which joint tactical exercises were worked out," Moiseev said.
According to him, these tasks were solved during the 10th Arctic cruise of ships and vessels of the SF on the seas of the Arctic Ocean.
"Rescue-oriented, anti-terrorist and anti-extremist exercises were also worked out to resolve crisis situations in the area of the Prirazlomnaya oil platform, in the port of Dudinka. Exercises on the defense of the Arctic island zone, the landing of amphibious forces on the unequipped coast on Kotelny Island and in Tiksi Bay in Yakutia were conducted," the military commander said.
The 10th Arctic campaign lasted 66 days. During this time, 12,000 nautical miles were covered, 34 combat exercises were performed, including seven artillery and two rocket firings, Moiseev said. He recalled that for operations in the Arctic, a grouping consisting primarily of large anti-submarine and amphibious ships, as well as attached marine forces, was formed on the basis of the Kola Flotilla of heterogeneous SF forces.
Moiseev said that in 2021, surface ships, submarines and support vessels completed the tasks of 26 long-distance trips to various areas of the World Ocean, mainly to the Arctic, the Atlantic and the Mediterranean Sea. "The North Sea crew fulfilled the tasks of naval presence and flag demonstration, as well as ensured the safety of civilian navigation in the waters of the Gulf of Guinea," Moiseev said.
