Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu named priority tasks for equipping the army next year. On the air of Sputnik radio, military expert Dmitry Kornev commented on the plans of the defense department.

The head of the Ministry of Defense Sergei Shoigu at the board of the Ministry announced plans to equip the army for next year.

According to the Minister, it is planned to supply more than a thousand modern armored and artillery weapons to the Ground Forces, Airborne Forces and coastal forces of the Navy, 257 new and modernized aircraft, five divisional sets of the S-400 Triumph anti-aircraft missile system to the Aerospace Forces and Navy.

The Navy plans to accept five submarines, 11 surface ships, three combat boats, as well as a new nuclear-powered submarine of the Borei–A project - Generalissimo Suvorov, Shoigu noted.

The share of modern weapons in the strategic nuclear forces has exceeded 89%, Russian President Vladimir Putin said.

"The work on large-scale modernization of the army and navy was continued. As a result, the share of modern weapons in the troops exceeded 71%, and in the strategic nuclear forces – 89%," the head of state said, speaking at an expanded meeting of the board of the Ministry of Defense on Tuesday.

On the air of Sputnik radio, the chief editor of the website commented on the plans of the Ministry of Defense MilitaryRussia.ru Dmitry Kornev. According to him, Russia is following the path of qualitative improvement of its weapons, not striving for quantitative superiority.

"The composition, for example, of our Navy is still far from what the Soviet Union had. Rather, we are restoring the capabilities of our fleet in the conditions that were in the best years of the USSR. The fleet is being updated – the fleet requires it. If we talk about the Air Force, about aviation, then there is a replacement of equipment with a more modern one. We are growing qualitatively - that's for sure, combat capabilities are growing. We already have a fairly high percentage of new and new models of equipment, however, there are still needs. The strategic missile forces consist of 89 percent of new and state-of-the-art equipment, and they are also still being re-equipped. And this is right: when we are not growing in "breadth", but we are growing in quality indicators. We are becoming more powerful, but not at the expense of increasing the "heads"," Dmitry Kornev said.
