TSAMTO, December 21. The first serial nuclear icebreaker of the project 22220 "Siberia" returned to the berth of the Baltic Plant (part of the USC) after passing the final stage of the factory sea trials program.
During the control exit of the vessel into the waters of the Gulf of Finland, which lasted a little more than a week, the factory delivery team carried out a final check of the vessel's systems and mechanisms, comments on which were identified at the first stage of testing.
Now the first serial universal nuclear icebreaker "Siberia" is moored at the berth of the Baltic plant. The delivery team and crew prepare the vessel for the passage to Murmansk. It is expected that the act of handing over the icebreaker to the customer will be signed in the last days of this year. The flag of Russia will be raised on board the nuclear-powered ship "Siberia" in early 2022.
The universal nuclear icebreaker Siberia is the second vessel of the project 22220, built at the Baltic Plant. The ceremony of its laying took place on May 26, 2015. The launch took place on September 22, 2017. In addition to Siberia, the company is building three more nuclear-powered ships of the project - these are the icebreakers Ural, Yakutia and Chukotka.
The universal nuclear icebreakers of Project 22220 are the largest and most powerful icebreaking vessels in the world. Their main task is to ensure year-round navigation in the Arctic. The vessels of this project in the coming years should become the basis of the civil icebreaking fleet of Russia.
