The newest diesel submarine Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky of the Pacific Fleet launched a Kalibr cruise missile, a salvo was fired from an underwater position in the waters of the Sea of Japan. This was reported on Tuesday, December 21, in the information support department of the Pacific Fleet of the press service of the Eastern Military District.
"The missile successfully hit a coastal target at a distance of more than 1 thousand kilometers," the Defense Ministry noted.
As specified, the crew of the submarine, while performing the training task, conducted a complex of trainings with the development of an algorithm of actions during rocket firing with high-precision weapons. Before the launch, the submariners conducted a tactical maneuver of secretly entering the shooting area.
The missile fired from the submarine hit the coastal target position on the tactical field of Surkum at the estimated time. The firing range exceeded 1000 km.
"The execution of missile firing was provided by ships and vessels of the Pacific Fleet, aircraft and unmanned aerial vehicles of the Naval aviation of the Pacific Fleet," the message clarifies.
The Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky submarine, as part of a detachment of ships, arrived at the main base of the Pacific Fleet less than a month ago. The detachment made the transition from the Baltic Fleet.
Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky at the Pacific Fleet is one of the first diesel-electric submarines capable of carrying high-precision Kalibr cruise missiles.
As reported in November, by 2024, six multipurpose submarines of Project 636.3 will serve in Vladivostok.
