MOSCOW, Dec 19 - RIA Novosti. Russian Orion reconnaissance and strike drones are capable of coping with Turkish-made Bayraktar drones in the event of a collision, Major General Alexander Novikov, the head of unmanned aviation of the Russian Federation, said on Sunday.
"Not only Bayraktar, but any unmanned aerial vehicle," he said, answering a journalist's question on the Vesti Nedeli program on the Rossiya 1 TV channel whether Orion would be able to resist Bayraktar.
The plot demonstrates how the Orion rises into the air and then destroys a helicopter-type drone with an anti-tank guided missile (modern ATGMs are capable of hitting low-flying air targets).
Orion belongs to the class of medium-high impact unmanned aerial vehicles of long flight duration. Its maximum take-off weight is 1,150 kilograms, cruising flight speed is 200 kilometers per hour, maximum flight altitude is seven kilometers, the device can stay in the air for up to a day. The maximum mass of the drone's payload is 200 kilograms.
The drone can be armed with KAB-20, KAB-50 adjustable aerial bombs, UPAB-50 guided gliding aerial bombs, FAB-50 free-falling aerial bombs, X-50 aircraft guided missiles.
