The War Zone: tests of the new AGM-183A hypersonic missile in the USA ended in failure
New tests of the American AGM-183A hypersonic missile under the ARRW (Air-Launched Rapid Response Weapon) program ended in failure. This was reported by a specialized portal The War Zone with reference to a representative of the US Air Force.
The rocket accelerator was tested on Thursday, December 16. The test rocket was to be launched from a B-52 strategic bomber. It was supposed to accelerate to a speed five times the speed of sound. However, according to an Air Force spokesman, "the sequence of launch operations was interrupted before the separation [of the rocket] due to an unknown problem."
According to him, the rocket will be returned to the manufacturer for immediate analysis of telemetry and onboard data. "The US military expects to resume flight tests as soon as possible," he said.
As the portal notes, this is the third unsuccessful test of the AGM-183A rocket. Experts have not yet found out the reasons for the incident.
Earlier it was reported that the United States will begin testing a new radar that is capable of tracking both intercontinental ballistic missiles and hypersonic weapons. Its construction has already been completed, and now, according to the Missile Defense Agency, it is possible to proceed to the testing stage. Once fully operational, the radar will be able to provide an unprecedented opportunity to simultaneously search and track several small objects, including all classes of ballistic missiles at very long ranges.
