During the exercises of the units of the Western Military District, a lightly armored multi-purpose MT-LB tractor was seen towing a trailer with an unusual cargo - a UR-83P rocket launcher.
Previously, this younger brother of the UR-77 Meteor self-propelled complex, also known as the Serpent Gorynych, was moved with the help of cross-country vehicles. For example, recently KAMAZ-5350 all-terrain vehicles have been used for this purpose. Previously, ZiL-131 were used, in the bodies of which two sets were placed at once.
It may be recalled that during the fighting against gangs in Syria, government troops also mounted "eighty-thirds" on GAZ-3308 "Sadko" and "Ural-4320".
MT-LB, in turn, has exceptional opportunities to travel on almost any rough terrain at any time of the year.
If necessary, the installation can be disassembled and moved to the place of use directly by the personnel.
It is known that the UR-83P uses a special rocket pulling a cable loaded with 1380 kg of explosives. Their detonation causes the response of anti-tank and anti-personnel mines of various types. The length of the passage being made is 115 meters, and the width is 6 meters.
In various "hot spots" such engineering means, as well as "Meteorites", were also used to destroy various enemy fortifications, greatly demoralizing the enemy on the defensive.
In our army, great attention is traditionally paid to the technique of such a purpose. So, at the end of the 60s, the UR-67 was adopted on the basis of a floating tracked armored personnel carrier BTR-50P. UR-77s have been in operation since 1978.
More advanced installations were developed on the BMP-3 platform, the newest version in 2020 was involved in large-scale Caucasus maneuvers.
