With the help of an onboard sonar station and magnetometers, they will independently detect and identify sea mines.
MOSCOW, December 17. /tass/. The universal landing helicopter carriers (UDC) of the project 23900 "Ivan Rogov" and "Mitrofan Moskalenko", which are being built at JSC "B. E. Butoma Shipbuilding Plant" (Kerch), will be equipped with mine-free unmanned boats (BEC) of Russian design. This was reported to TASS by a source in the shipbuilding industry.
"The helicopter carriers of the 23900 project are planned to be armed with a mine-fighting complex consisting of unmanned boats and underwater drones of domestic design. There will be two back-up units on board the ship at once," the agency interlocutor said.
According to him, uninhabited boats with the help of an onboard sonar station and magnetometers will independently detect and identify sea mines. Remotely controlled underwater vehicles will destroy them.
"The possession of a mine defense complex will allow the UDC to independently solve combat tasks in the far sea zone without the support of the mine defense forces of the fleet," the agency interlocutor stressed.
Currently, the mine defense ships of the 12700 project (Alexandrite cipher) are equipped with the Skanda back-up based on the BL-680 high-speed boat, as well as uninhabited underwater vehicles designed to destroy mines.
TASS has no official information on this matter.
UDC of the project 23900
Earlier it was reported that the UDC of the 23900 project will be adapted for basing strike and reconnaissance unmanned aerial vehicles. Drones will be able to effectively provide fire support for amphibious assault, illuminate the tactical situation in the landing zone and during special operations, detect and, if necessary, eliminate inconspicuous watercraft.
The UDC is capable of carrying a grouping of heavy helicopters for various purposes, transporting from several hundred to 1 thousand or more marines. They are equipped with a dock for boats that provide landing, transport armored vehicles. The first two domestic ships of this class - "Ivan Rogov" and "Mitrofan Moskalenko" - were laid at the shipyard "Gulf" on July 20, 2020. Russian helicopter carriers are being built according to the 23900 project developed by Zelenodolsk PKB.
