The first flight of the Ka-62 is scheduled for early 2024
ST. PETERSBURG, December 16. /tass/. Bench tests of the VK-1600V demonstrator engine for the Ka-62 helicopter should begin before the end of 2021. This was reported to journalists by Anton Kolosov, chief designer of the VK-1600 engine at the ODK-Klimov enterprise (part of the Rostec United Engine Corporation).
"Now we are engaged in the manufacture of a demonstrator engine, all its components have already been fully manufactured, the assembly process is underway. We plan to put it on the stand before the end of this year. The certification of the engine is planned in mid-2023," he said.
Kolosov also clarified that the first flight of the Ka-62 helicopter with new Russian engines according to the schedule is scheduled for early 2024.
Work on the VK-1600V engine began at the end of 2019. It is being created for the promising multi-purpose Ka-62 helicopter. Today there are no domestic engines of this dimension in the country. At the MAKS-2021 air Show, the United Engine Corporation presented the VK-1600V demonstrator.
The Ka-62 is a medium multi-purpose helicopter. At the end of May 2017, he made the first test flight at the site of the Arseniev Aircraft Construction Company "Progress" named after N. I. Sazykin of the Russian Helicopters holding. The main areas of application of the machine include passenger transportation, rescue operations, as well as work in the oil and gas field. The helicopter can be used in the widest possible range of climatic and geographical conditions, at temperatures from minus 50 to plus 50 degrees. The helicopter has a high cruising speed of 290 km/h.
