Dmitry Litovkin: Russian ATGM can overcome any tank protection system
The Russian anti-tank missile system (ATGM) "Kornet" can overcome any system of active protection of modern armored vehicles. Dmitry Litovkin, editor-in-chief of the Independent Military Review, called the advantages of the ATGM. This is reported by TASS .
Litovkin noted that the complexes of the Kornet family can overcome the protection of armored vehicles with the help of paired missile launches. "Both missiles fired go in the same laser beam with a small interval, which allows you to deceive intelligent armored vehicle protection systems, such as, for example, the Israeli Iron Fist developed by IMI," he said.
According to Dmitry Litovkin, modern active protection systems detect incoming ammunition using a locator. After that, the complex fires a beam of damaging elements that destroy the threat. He stressed that the defense can hit the first missile of the ATGM "Kornet", missing the second munition.
Also, an ATGM missile can hit equipment that has released a smoke screen. Litovkin stressed that the ammunition will continue to fly along a given trajectory to the target. The missile of the Kornet complex received a tandem warhead. This allows you to deprive the car of dynamic protection with the first charge, and with the second — to hit the object.
Earlier, Sergey Mikhailov, Deputy director of the High-Precision Complexes holding, said that the Kornet-EM complex had been made universal. The Russian ATGM can be used on any wheeled or tracked chassis of the appropriate load capacity.
