TSAMTO, December 14. Huntington Ingalls Industries announced the cutting ceremony of the first steel for the destroyer URO (DDG-131) held at the Ingalls Shipbuilding division "George M. Neal" (George M. Neal) class "Arlie Burke".
The destroyer will be built in the "Fly-3" (Flight III) version. The ships of this version will be distinguished by advanced air/missile defense capabilities. So, DDG-131 will be equipped with a new radar system AN/SPY-6(V)1 AMDR (Air and Missile Defense Radar), which will replace the SPY-1 radar installed on the Arleigh Burke-class destroyers of previous modifications.
As reported by TSAMTO, the Arly Burke-class destroyers are multi-purpose warships designed to solve a wide range of tasks in peacetime and wartime, including crisis management, ensuring dominance at sea, projecting military force. The ship is capable of launching missile and artillery strikes against naval groups and ground targets, fighting enemy submarines, providing fire support for Armed Forces units in the coastal zone, as well as performing command and control tasks, air defense / missile defense.
Huntington Ingalls Industries previously supplied 33 Arleigh Burke-class destroyers to the U.S. Navy. The last on November 30, 2021, the destroyer squadron (DDG-121) "Frank E. Petersen Jr." was transferred to the US Navy.
Currently, several more ships of the series are under construction at Ingalls Shipbuilding: Lena Sutcliffe Higby (DDG-123) in the Fly-2A configuration, as well as Jack Lucas (DDG-125), Ted Stevens (DDG-128) and Jeremiah Denton (DDG-129) in the Fly-3 configuration.
