Tank crews conducted live firing at the ranges of the Southern Military District in the Volgograd and Rostov regions, Crimea, Adygea, Dagestan, Ingushetia, North Ossetia, Karachay-Cherkessia, as well as at Russian military bases in Abkhazia, Armenia and South Ossetia.
The press service of the Southern Military District reported that a total of more than 1.5 thousand servicemen participated in them for five days. "Live firing exercises were carried out by crews from the guns of modern T-72B3 and T-90A tanks using standard shells, as well as from a large-caliber anti-aircraft machine gun. The crews improved their skills in hitting targets simulating a moving tank, an anti-tank grenade launcher and recoilless artillery at distances from 300 to 2000 meters," the district headquarters said.
They added that according to the combat training plan, the servicemen will study the battle tactics of tank units in the offensive and defense during the daytime and at night. And in general, the combat coordination of crews, calculations and departments will last until February next year.
It should be borne in mind that in the Southern Military District, as in other military districts, they use a new method of training tank crews. During the exercises, they perform the entire range of tactical and firing tasks in one race. A target environment is created at the training grounds, which provides for firing from all types of weapons of combat vehicles in all possible ways: on the move, from the spot, with short stops, from shelters and with maneuvering to a reserve position at night. In addition, the number of targets for T-72B3 tank crews has been increased, and the maximum range to them has increased to 2.5 thousand meters.
It has also become more difficult to perform tasks because tankers do not know in advance from which side and at what distance from them the next target will appear. Another innovation was the appearance of a target imitating an enemy armored car on the battlefield. In terms of dimensions, it corresponds to modern models of lightly armored wheeled vehicles.
According to this method, in particular, since the beginning of summer, crews of T-72B3 tanks have been trained at the 7th Russian military base in Abkhazia.
