Defense News: Mojave drone can take off from unprepared sites
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems has unveiled a new drone in the United States. Mojave can take off and land on unprepared platforms, as well as carry weapons. This is reported by Defense News.
The new drone received a fuselage, which is used in the Grey Eagle model. The Mojave is distinguished from the previous model by an enlarged wing and a new Rolls-Royce engine with 450 horsepower. The new device is based on the avionics of the MQ-9 Reaper and MQ-1C Grey Eagle drones.
General Atomics Aeronautical Systems noted that the new drone can perform tasks without a prepared runway. This is facilitated by an increased wing area and a new engine.
The payload capacity of the drone is 3,600 pounds (about 1,630 kilograms). This allows Mojave to carry 16 Hellfire missiles, a radar or an electro-optical system.
Earlier, the head of Rosoboronexport, Alexander Mikheev, said that new models of Russian drones will be brought to the foreign market. He noted that in 2021, foreign customers were interested in the Orion-E reconnaissance and strike drone.
In October, Sergey Bogatikov, CEO of Kronstadt JSC, revealed the features of the Orion drone. According to him, the open architecture allows the unmanned vehicle to carry any set of weapons.
