The first flight of the new-built Tu-160M strategic missile carrier is planned for 2022. This was announced by Deputy Prime Minister of Russia Yuri Borisov at the company "UEC - Perm Motors", reports TASS .
"The first flight of the new Tu-160 is planned, I hope, at the beginning of next year," Borisov said in a conversation with the head of Rostec State Corporation Sergey Chemezov.
The Deputy Prime Minister added that the aircraft can make a run with the new NK-32 engines. He stressed that the new Tu-160 is being built not from the existing groundwork, but on a new element base.
Earlier, TASS, citing a source in the aircraft industry, reported that the new-built Tu-160M will be tested in December. The source said that by the end of the year the plane will make a run on the runway.
In October, Alexey Sobolev, Managing Director of UEC-Kuznetsov, announced an increase in the production of NK-32 engines. The representative of the company noted that the entire fleet of Tu-160 bombers will receive new engines.
